James' 1983 Glastron Restoration Project

As with many things, I didn't take as many pictures of the boat throughout the restoration process as I should have, but here are a few.

I bought the boat in the Spring of 2003 for $500. The gentleman who owned the boat prior to me died and the boat had water sitting in it for 4 years.

The bad:
The floor was completely rotten as were the stringers, seat cusions, and carpet. To my surprise, the transom was solid. There were baby trees growing in it along with a nice mulch of leaves, earthworms, etc. We cleaned out the boat with shovels.

The good:
The motor cranked right up after 4 years of sitting idle (it had been winterized). I eventually did have to rebuild the carbuerators and fix a few rotten wires. The galvanized trailer is in great shape.

Here are some pictures of the boat after it was "cleaned up some":

At this point, the boat was sitting in my father-in-laws shop and had more or the floor removed:

On Memorial Day, 2004, we took our first family boat ride:

My father-in-law helped me with the restoration. He cut out the stringers and glassed them in as well as cut out the marine plywood for the floor. We glassed the deck in and then put in indoor/outdoor carpet. We then installed two new lounge seats. We also converted the trailer to a "drive-on" trailer.
